City of Spokane, Spokane Indians announce Redband Rally Campaign
SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane and the Spokane Indians Baseball Club announced Wednesday a collaborative promotional campaign dubbed Redband Rally Campaign.
The campaign is designed to connect citizens to the Spokane River, educate about work to clean up the river, and support local organizations devoted to river protection.
“Our community is investing hundreds of millions of dollars in work to improve the health of the Spokane River,” said Mayor David Condon. “We believe it’s important to tell people about that work in a way that connects with everyone, including our youth who will be responsible for caring for our river well into the future.”
“The Mayor likes to say that our work these days is ‘all about the river,'” said Otto Klein, Senior Vice President of Spokane Indians Baseball. “This campaign advances that thinking to encourage our community members to embrace the river and become its stewards.”
A new Redband mascot will debut at Indians games starting Saturday, July 8, when Spokane hosts the Hillsboro Hops. A name-that-mascot contest will be held in conjunction to the game with the winner receiving a Redband uniform, hat and tickets to a future Indians game.
The team will also debut new jerseys and hats to wear at select games.
The campaign includes a citywide advertising campaign, an educational website (SpokaneRedband.com), and interactive promotional headbands for fans to wear during home games with information on the river.
Additionally, the campaign also features a philanthropic component to raise money which will be donated to local organizations that conserve and protect the river and its native Redband trout.
The City is investing $340 million in work to projects that will help improve water quality in the river, including a major upgrade at the Riverside Park Water Reclamation Facility.
The City is also supporting the campaign with a $25,000 initial scholarship.
