City of Spokane approves expansion at East Central Community Center
SPOKANE, Wash — Changes are coming to the East Central Community Center, including a new on-site dental clinic and renovation of the current building to provide more resources to the community.
The Spokane County hearing examiner approved a proposal for the changes this week.
The center is located in the 800 block of South Sherman Street.
The ECCC is owned by the City of Spokane, which leases the building to the MLK Jr. Outreach Center. The center has partnered with the Community Colleges of Spokane to provide Early Headstart and Early Childhood Education Assistance. To house that program, the outreach center has proposed a 5,820 square foot addition.
The outreach center also wants to build a dental clinic, operated by CHAS Health. That building will be constructed in place of a currently-vacant building on the site.
The hearing examiner’s office determined that the project is compatible with the neighborhood and appropriate in size. No neighbors stepped forward to object.
The original application for the building permits stated the building expansion could be completed this fall. There is no date listed for completion of the dental clinic.
