City of Spokane announces addition of nine snow gates to fleet
SPOKANE, Wash. — The City of Spokane celebrated Christmas in July Monday as Mayor Condon announced the city would more than double the number of snow gates in its fleet ahead of this winter.
Condon said the city will add nine gates, valued at $25,000 each. The gates will help cut down on driveway snow berms during plowing season.
Condon said a letter from a neighbor set the change in motion.
“He had calculated how much time our citizens spend clearing out their driveways and that it would be financially viable for the city to buy the gates rather than having all the citizens do this,” Condon said.
The city said the money for the new gates will come out of the general fund. The gates are expected to be installed by October.
