City of Moscow hosts first annual tree expo
MOSCOW, Idaho — The City of Moscow and the Moscow Tree Commission will host the first annual Moscow Tree Expo on Saturday, May 5 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The expo will be held in the multipurpose room of the Hamilton Recreation Center, and will offer a chance to learn about selecting, planting, and caring for trees.
Area exhibitors will have displays at the expo and be available to answer questions.
Four presentations will be offered throughout the afternoon:
At 1:30 p.m. – How to Select the Right Tree for the Right Place. Landscape designer and consultant Debbie Kadlec will discuss how to use tree characteristics, form, conditions, and characteristics of the planting site to help choose the perfect tree.
At 2:00 p.m. – The City of Moscow’s Tree Ordinance. David Schott, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director will discuss the City of Moscow’s Tree Ordinance and how it pertains to the care of trees in the public right of way from a community forestry standpoint.
At 2:30 p.m. – City of Moscow’s Tree Planting Dedication Fund. David Schott, Assistant Parks and Recreation Director will talk about the Tree Planting Dedication Fund and which subdivisions qualify for tree vouchers.
At 3:00 p.m. – Tips for Planting Success. University of Idaho Campus Horticulturalist David Rauk will discuss the elements that affect successful tree planting, including the time of year and re-root versus containerized, plus tips on planting your new tree and how to care for it.
