Child rape suspect booked into Spokane Co. Jail after several days in the hospital
SPOKANE, Wash. — A man accused of child rape, who was taken into custody following a SWAT standoff, was booked into the Spokane County Jail Tuesday after several days in the hospital.
Donald A. Hegel was taken into police custody on April 24 after barricading himself in a house in Spokane Valley. The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office found Hegel near Leta Road and 4th Avenue after receiving a tip. When SCSO and SWAT arrived, Hegel threatened he would shoot if authorities came any closer.
SCSO used K9s to help get Hegel to surrender. He was ultimately taken into custody, but taken to the hospital for injuries. He was released from the hospital Tuesday morning and booked into jail at 12:12 p.m.
Hegel appeared in a Spokane County courtroom Wednesday on charges related to the standoff, including harassment, resisting arrest, obstructing a public officer and driving with under the influence of drugs. His bond was set at $125,000.
