The Spokane Chiefs scored 4 goals in the third period to secure a 5-2 victory over the Victoria Royals Wednesday night in Victoria, B.C. The Chiefs jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Luke Toporowski’s 10th goal of the year from Hudson Elynuik and Tyson Helgesen at 7:58 and held that advantage into the second period. Victoria’s Tyler Soy scored a power play goal late in the second to even the game at one heading into the third period. Spokane would re-take the lead on Kailer Yamamoto’s power play tally from Jake McGrew and Ty Smith at 7:58 to go up 2-1. Eli Zummack would score his 13th of the year from Toporowski and Elynuik at 10:05 to put the Chiefs seemingly in control at 3-1.

Victoria came right back though as Soy scored his second of the night with a short handed tally with just under 4 minutes remaining to cut the Chiefs lead to 3-2. Zummack would score his second of the night with the net empty at 18:51 to give Spokane a 4-2 advantage. Elynuik would cap the scoring and a three point night with another empty netter from Zummack and Smith at 19:24 to cap a 5-2 victory. Zummack finished with 2 goals and an assist, while Elynuik went for a goal and 2 assists to lead the way offensively.

The Chiefs out shot the Royals 31-29 in the game, going 1-4 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill. Dawson Weatherill picked up 27 saves in getting his 26th win of the season. Spokane is now 4-1 on their 6 game road trip and will finish their road swing at Seattle Friday night at 7:35 pm. Mike Boyle will have the call on 1510 KGA starting with the pre-game show at 7 pm.
