Central Valley girls basketball team honored by Spokane Valley
SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Central Valley Bears girls basketball team, complete with players, coaches, and managers were honored by the Spokane Valley City Council Thursday afternoon.
The team was honored with a proclamation and Key to the City for the team’s stellar 2017-2018 season. Not only did the Bears win a WIAA 4A championship at the state tournament, but they won the championship at the 2018 GEICO High School Nationals, held in Middle Village, New York, earlier this month.
The team was ranked first in the nation by a USA Today High School Sports computer poll based on a variety of factors, including the strength of schedule, offense, defense, and power. The roster includes Anika Chalich, Hailey Christoper, Peyton Howard, Lacie Hull, Lexie Hull, Michaela Laabs, Kate Sarns, Mady Simmelink, Camryn Skaife, and Tomekia Whitman.
“We were just proud to represent our city, our high school and the state of Washington,” said Head Coach Freddie Rehkow.
In addition to Rehkow, the team’s coaching staff include Judy Waters, Josh Thomas, Nick Seaman, and Rob Rowe. They are supported by team managers Emma Horton, Grace Williams, and Cameron Rehkow.
