Cathy McMorris Rodgers and family uninjured in train crash

UPDATE: At least one person from the truck was killed in the crash.

Others in the vehicle are also said to be seriously injured. On the train there were no major injuries reported – only minor.

Minnesota congressman Jason Lewis was sent to a local hospital with a concussion.

ORIGINAL STORY: On Wednesday morning, a chartered train carrying dozens of GOP lawmakers to a Republican retreat in West Virginia hit a garbage truck south of Charlottesville, Virginia.

“We’re fine, but our train hit a garbage truck. Members with medical training are assisting the drivers of the truck,” Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., wrote on Twitter.

The train was en route to the Greenbrier resort in White Sulfur Springs for a three-day issues retreat featuring appearances by President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.

A member of Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ press staff told KXLY that the congresswoman was traveling with her family. However, a GOP aide speaking on condition of anonymity says no one on board was injured.

According to witnesses and authorities at the scene, the people in the garbage truck were seriously wounded. There is no word on the exact condition of either of those people yet.

This is a developing story.
