It was a happy homecoming Friday night at the Spokane International Airport as dozens of local soldiers deployed for a year reunited with their families.

Downtown piano bar expanding their business to include a lounge

The downtown piano bar, Gibliano Brothers, 718 W. Riverside, is expanding their business to include a lounge in a space adjacent to their current occupancy. The lounge, dubbed the GB lounge, will feature storefront visibility on Riverside Ave. The lounge is expected to open on September 8th.Jason Kostelecky, marketing director for the two-year old bar, says the concept includes pool tables, flat screen televisions and additional 100 occupancy capacity.Customers in the lounge will be able to view the piano bar section and performance through the feature television sets on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The business hours will not be changing. As usual, the bar is closed on Sundays.

Out of the Darkness and Silence

The Miracle Worker, the story of Helen Keller and her teacher, Annie Sullivan, has returned to Spokane for a short time.  This is your opportunity to see the inspiring story come to life as Annie Sullivan comes into Helen Keller's world of darkness and silence, having been left blind and deaf from a childhood illness.  With Annie's persistance the doors to Helen's world are unlocked and Helen learns to communicate with the world outside her own. Helen is played by Caroline Slater and Paige Kubicek and Annie Sullivan is played by Sarah Denison.  The play is directed by Patty Duke who played Helen Keller in 1962 and received an academy award. 

Kiddie pools aren't as popular as originally theorized

It was a mere theory that kiddie pools sales would increase during the looming closure of city pools for the summer, but I was wrong. Phone calls to local general stores resulted in the same thing. Most said their sales were about the same as last year with little demand.Pat Conley, Spokane Valley White Elephant store co-manager said, "This year's weather hasn't done it. Last year we never ran out, but we went through several."

Some city pools will remain open longer this summer

Updated - 2:27 p.m. - You've probably checked out the weather report for the next few days and are wondering why the pools are being shut down so early. There are certainly not enough kiddie pools to accommodate every user of the city pools. There actually isn't. However, the city plans to keep some of the pools open a little longer this summer.

Investigators are searching for the cause of a detached garage fire on Spokane's South Hill that damaged a car. Fire investigators estimated the damage at $40,000.

Man arrested for indecent exposure along 57th Tuesday afternoon

Drivers along westbound 57th on the upper South Hill were greeted by a man exposing himself near the Pittsburgh intersection.Witnesses told deputies that 20-year-old Tyler R. Raymond Hall pulled his shorts down to his thighs around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday displaying his genitals for all.Hall was arrested for indecent exposure by Deputy B. Garrett. During a search of his clothing, a bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe were found. The Sheriff's Office says that it's undetermined if the marijuana played a role in the indecent exposure incident, but it played a role in the additional arrest for possession of a controlled substance.

Kitchen Fire Chases Six People Out Of Home

Six people including four children are homeless this morning after an early morning fire in Northeast Spokane. Firefighters contained most of the damage to the kitchen, but there is smoke damage throughout the house.

Parisian Cupcake sells out in less than three hours on opening day
