Car crash victim creates skincare line to treat severe scarring

There’s a new shop opening on Spokane’s Perry District. Bee You Organics sells all-natural products from skincare to makeup. The store’s owner said she only creates products without additional chemicals.

The store’s name is a bit of a play on words. Everything in the store is organic, and beeswax is used in most of the products. But it’s more than just that.

Larissa Warren is the woman behind the company. She reminds all of us to ‘be you’ – everyone’s path in life is different, and it’s anything but skin deep.

They say every person has a why. A reason for everything. Hung right by the front entrance of Bee You Organics is Warren’s why.

“When I was sixteen, I was hit by a drunk driver. He ran a stop sign and made a left turn right in front of me. When I hit him, I actually went through the windshield before my seatbelt locked. And then when my seatbelt locked – it pulled me back inside the windshield and it pulled me back, so I went through the glass twice,” Warren said.

The trauma she went through from the crash would change her forever.

“When that happened, this whole half of my face ended up getting ripped off by the glass in the shards,” Warren said. “I had about four to five reconstructive surgeries just to be able to put this side of my face back together.”

That was 23 years ago.

“My boyfriend ended up dumping me, my friends didn’t know how to treat me. They didn’t know how to react to me,” Warren said.

She tried all the products on the market to cover her scars – but it didn’t help her at all.

“My whole face just became inflamed. Once my face became enflamed, of course you start buying more product to fix that problem,” Warren said.

As the saying goes, if you want something done right. Do it yourself, and she did.

Warren started Bee You Cosmetics. Her company started as an e-commerce brand. Now, she has a physical store in Spokane’s Perry District.

Warren makes all her cosmetics and skincare items from scratch using ingredients you could likely find in your kitchen.

It’s been 23 years since her accident, and looking at her today you wouldn’t know it.

“When I see these photos, it is amazing to me how far I’ve come, because this is all scars here,” Warren said.

Bee You Organics will have its grand opening next Wednesday. The store said they’re going to have live music and 10% of all purchases will go to a children’s charity.
