Body found in water near where Spokane man went missing
SAN JOSE, Calif. — Fishermen discovered a body Saturday afternoon that is believed to be a 32-year-old Spokane man who was last seen leaving the 49ers game on Monday, Nov. 12.
The body of a fully-clothed man was found face down in the water about a mile offshore near the Alviso Marina, which is just a few blocks from Levi’s Stadium.
The Santa Clara Police Department, which is investigating Powers’ disappearance as suspicious and had asked the public for help in finding him, were immediately notified. Divers recovered the body and now the Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the person’s identity.
Powers attended Monday night’s 49ers game with his girlfriend, Chelsea Robbins, and her two children. They drove down to the Bay Area from Spokane Thursday.
Surveillance cameras showed Powers walking out of Levi’s Stadium about 8:52 p.m. during the fourth quarter of a close game that the Giants won 27-23. Security cameras showed him walking west through the parking lot before losing sight of him at 9:03 p.m.
Robbins told KGO news that Powers got up from his seat and never came back. “He went to the bathroom and then got lost, or something happened,” she said Friday. According to Santa Clara Police Capt. Wahid Kazem, Robbins said she had texted and video chatted with him to coordinate a place to meet,
Powers’ car was found in a nearby parking lot. Santa Clara police say none of his credit cards had been used since he went missing.
