Body found by hunters identified as missing man
LAPWAI, Idaho — Around 11:00 a.m. Sunday morning, rabbit hunters came across a body in the area of McCormack Ridge Road near Champion Lane.
They contacted the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office and were able to meet up with law enforcement officers and lead them to the body.
Nez Perce County deputies and Nez Perce Tribal Police officers were able to identify the body as Daniel Montanez, a man who had been missing from the Champion Lane area since December 20th.
Deputies and officers were searching the area with a cadaver dog, looking for Montanez, when the call came in.
Montanez’s body was retrieved from the location and his identity was confirmed by his next of kin.
According to the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, no further information surrounding his death will be available until and autopsy is performed next week.
