Boat erupts into flames on Rose Lake, no injuries reported
ROSE LAKE, Idaho — The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and Shoshone Fire and Rescue responded to a boat fire on Rose Lake Saturday evening.
The boat has allegedly been sitting out in the middle of the lake when it suddenly exploded.
Rescue personnel arrived to find a boat engulfed in flames, far enough away from shore that fire crews could not reach it. The boat had to be towed in by another vessel, after which the fire could be put out on shore.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, there were no injuries during the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, although first responders suggest that a buildup of gas fumes in the engine department may have started it.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind all boaters to make sure their engine compartments are properly ventilated before starting them up. They recommend you let the ventilation system run four at least four minutes beforehand, and to make sure your Backfire Flame Arrester is properly cleaned.
