Bloomsday 2019: 4-time paralympian Aaron Pike wins men’s elite wheelchair race
SPOKANE, Wash. — No one else was in sight behind Aaron Pike when he crossed the finish line to win his first Bloomsday after finishing second-place twice in his career.
His time has not been officially published, but there was at least a full minute before Susannah Scaroli crossed after him, at 29:54.
“It’s the most dangerous course I’ve raced. You’ve got to put it together everywhere, you have to be a daredevil down the hills, and be a phenomenal climber, so it takes everything.”
Pike finished in ninth place just a week ago at the London marathon. He also competed in the Boston marathon.
He competes as a Nordic skiier at the Paralympic Games, with two trips each to the summer and winter editions under his belt.
