Black bear, cubs spotted along Iller Creek hiking area
SPOKANE CO., Wash. — A mother black bear and her cubs were spotted along Iller Creek over the weekend.
Spokane County Parks, Recreation & Golf said the bears were spotted in the popular hiking area on Friday, and are issuing a reminder to be “bear aware” when hiking around Spokane County.
According to the National Park Service, this means watching for tracks, feeding sites, and droppings, as well as only hiking during the day and with others. When hiking, the NPS says you should periodically yell or make your presence known to potential nearby animals. Hikers should avoid carcasses, stay on maintained trails and carry bear spray, as well.
