Bike to Work Week Spokane has a calendar filled with free and fun events for all to enjoy
SPOKANE, Wash. – — The Spokane Bicycle Club says they have been trying for some time to change Bike to Work Week to Bike Everywhere Week, as you don’t need to be headed to the office to enjoy.
On Monday, they kicked off the annual event with a free pancake breakfast in Riverfront Park. If you missed it, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy biking in Spokane for the rest of the week at no cost.
On Tuesday, check out any one of the energizer stations set up around Spokane to give commuters (to work, the grocery store or on the way to a trail) some snacks and drinks to continue on their ride. In the evening, REI will host a women’s ride. At the end, there will be a free class at the store on how to fix a flat bike tire.
Wednesday, Spokane Bicycle Club will host a Ride of Silence at 6 p.m. to honor cyclists who have been killed or were injured while riding in the Lilac City.
If you are interested in seeing new improvements to Spokane bike paths, multiple rides will take place during the day to show those off. For Spokane Bike Club member Sally Phillips, her favorite is the Ben Burr trail.
“I am a person who uses a bike for transportation a lot of the time and it’s a nifty way to go from the North side of Spokane to my home on the South Hill. I get to bypass a lot of the traffic and it’s beautiful,” she explained.
The celebrations end Friday with a pizza and beer party at River City Brewing.
