Beggs to run for Spokane City Council President

City Councilman Breean Beggs confirmed with KXLY that he has filed to run for city council president in November 2019.

Beggs, was nominated to fill a City Council vacancy in 2016 before being elected in 2017. He has long worked for the Center for Justice and promotes criminal justice reform. Beggs said if elected, he hopes to continue his work on Smart Justice programs to reduce incarceration and recidivism.

He also said he wants to focus on road construction and increasing affordable housing.

Beggs will run against community activist and former NAACP president Phillip Tyler. Tyler announced last month that he is also running for city council president.
