Veterans Day Celebration planned for November 12

Honor Point Military and Aerospace Museum, the City of Spokane and Spokane Airports are teaming up for a community-wide event to honor all past and present military veterans. "Welcome Home: A Veteran's Day Celebration" is scheduled for 1:00 pm, November 12th, in the historic Air National Guard hangar at Felts Field.Col. Brian Newberry, Wing Commander of Fairchild AFB, and Spokane Mayor David Condon will be the featured speakers.  The Military Order of the Purple Heart will be specially recognized, as will regional and local Purple Heart recipients. 

Dare to dream with Disney on Ice show

The popular Disney On Ice touring show returns to the Spokane Arena on Wednesday, November 14, and runs through Sunday, November 18.  The theme of this year's show is "Dare to Dream" and has been described as the ultimate, princess experience.

Coats 4 Kids Drive kicks off on Sunday

KXLY 4's annual Coat 4 Kids Drive will kick-off this Sunday, September 16, at the Spokane County Interstate Fair.  If you bring a new or gently-used coat to one of the fairground gates on Sunday, you will receive a free child's admission.  The free child admission tickets are good for children age 13 and under.

The Wizard of Oz comes to Coeur d'Alene

Happy birthday, Spokane Humane Society!

Join the Spokane Humane Society as they celebrate their 115th birthday this Saturday at 6607 North Havana Street from 11 am - 2 pm.  They are inviting all of their four-legged "alumni" and their forever families back to the shelter for the celebration. The Spokane Humane Society has a lot of great activities planned for the party.  Animals and their owners from each year can gather for special photos. Everyone is welcome to bring pets they have adopted from the Spokane Humane Society so they can interact with everyone.  You can also bring and share photos of your pets, tour the facility and see the new spay/neuter clinic.  They will even hold a special memorial for all of the pets that have passed away.

What's For Lunch Food Drive hits Friday

KXLY 4, Yoke's Fresh Markets and Second Harvest are teaming up this Friday, July 13, for the "What's For Lunch Food Drive."  The focus of this food drive is to make sure children in need are able to get healthy lunches while school is out this summer.You can help by donating at any in Spokane, Deer Park and North Idaho from now through Friday.  Pre-made bags are available for purchase at each store and come in a variety of denominations.  Each pre-made bag is filled with a variety of needed food items.

Pinnacle Physcial Therapy Offers Students Help For Back Pack Strain

It's back-to-school time and Pinnacle Physical Therapy is offering local students and their parents free back pack assessments during the month of September.A heavy  back pack can put a terrible strain on a young developing spine.  A trained therapist can help protect a young person's back by evaluating the weight of their back packs and by demonstrating ways to avoid back pain during the school year.  These evaluations can help both young and older students.

A Muddy Mess For A Good Cause

The Kootenai County Fairgrounds will host an unusual event this Saturday.  Muddy Miles 2011 is a fun run and obstacle course with a little mud thrown in as well.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Dirne Community Health Center.

Kootenai Humane Society Celebrates Dog Dayze This Friday

Does your family need a new "Forever Friend?"  Check out Dog Dayze this Friday at the Inland Northwest Bank Hayden Branch.  The Kootenai Humane Society will have dogs on-site and available for adoption.  The adoption event and fundraiser will run from 10 am - 3pm. Help Offered For First Time Home Buyers

The Washington State Housing Finance Commission is offering two First time Home Buyer Seminars this week.  The seminars will take place on Tuesday, June 7, and Thursday, June 9, at Guild Mortgage located at 12209 E Mission Avenue, Suite 7, in Spokane Valley.  The classes start at 6:00 pm, are free and open to the public.  These seminars are for anyone thinking about buying their first home or anyone who has not owned a home in the last three years. The classes will include information about the Finance Commission's low-interest rate House Key State Bond first mortgage program, down payment assistance and other loan programs.

Local High School Students Win Scholarships

Five local high school students won scholarships from Banner Bank and the Spokane Indians.  Each of the five students received a $500 scholarship to use towards their college tuition.  The scholarship-winning students are:  Victoria Karschney (Joel E. Experience Riverside State Park In A Completely Different Way

This Sunday, Riverside State Park has something special lined up for visitors.  The park is going to set up seven different sites with the park.  Rangers will be stationed at each of the sites and they will provide educational information about the park and its recreational activities. At each of these seven sites, visitors will be able to enter prize drawings and there will be a grand prize drawing for guests who visit all seven sites and submit their completed punch card.

Coeur d'Alene Symphony Wraps Up Season On Saturday

The Coeur d'Alene Symphony will wrap up its 2010-2011 season this Saturday at the Lake City Community Church located at 6000 N. Ramsey Road in Coeur d'Alene.  Featured music will be Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade conducted by David Demand and Hayden's Farewell Symphony #45 conducted by guest conductor Michael Korpi. 

Colfax School District Losing 4 Teaching Positions

Moscow-Pullman Daily News Online is reporting that the Colfax School District is losing four teaching positions next year.  The high school will lose two and L. M. Jennings Elementary will lose the other two. Only one teacher was let go.  Another teacher is retiring and two provisional teachers will not be asked back.

Enjoy The Garden Expo This Saturday

With temperatures finally hitting the 70's this week, it looks like local gardens will be blooming soon.  If you need some "goodies" for your garden, explore the Garden Expo this Saturday at the Spokane Community College Lair.  Over 250 garden-related vendors will be selling the latest in garden art, garden decor, yard furniture and all sorts of plants will be for sale as well. There will also be gardening seminars, food, live music and the chance to win a prize or two.  The Garden Expo starts at 9 am on Saturday and runs until 5 pm.  The address of the Spokane Community College Lair is 1810 North Greene Street.

Sunday Night Dance Helps Honor Flight

The MasterClass Jazz Orchestra and the Spokane Swing Dance Club are putting on a WWII Honor Flight Charity Dance this Sunday at the German American Hall in Downtown Spokane.  The MasterClass Jazz Orchestra is a mentorship program that teams professional musicians with high school and college musicians. The Inland Northwest Honor Flight is a volunteer organization and proceeds from this event will help send WWII veterans to Washington DC to see the Veteran's Monument and other sites.

Central Valley High School Theatre Department Presents "Narnia"

The Central Valley High School Theatre Department is proud to present "Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." The show debuts this Wednesday night at 7:30 pm.  The show runs from May 11 through May 17. The production includes Aslan the lion as a full size puppet and features all of your favorite Narnia characters.  Tickets went on sale at the CVHS business office on Monday, May 2nd and are still available.  Tickets are $10.00 and are also available at the door each night.
