Art, Jazz & a little history
MOSCOW, Idaho — For more than 50 years the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival has brought great music to the Palouse and taught countless student how to get into the swing. Now a new exhibit at Third Street Gallery in Moscow is showing off the history of the festival through posters.
The University of Idaho Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is one of the oldest and largest educational jazz festivals in the world.
Each year the are more 400 student performances. It’s a chance for students to learn from some of the world’s best jazz artists during nearly 100 workshops, clinics and special exhibits.
The festival is February 23 and 24 and the Third Street Gallery’s exhibit is on display through the 23rd. It features historical Jazz Festival posters, items from the International Jazz Collections at the University of Idaho Library Special Collections and Archives.
The Third Street Gallery is located on the second and third floors of Moscow’s historic City Hall.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
