Apple Cup greatest moments: 2007
PULLMAN, Wash. — The 2007 Apple Cup didn’t have a lot riding on it, both teams coming into the game with a 4 and 7 record and the rivalry game really would the highlights of someone’s year.
It turns out we got one of the more entertaining games in the history of the series. Both teams taking leads with momentum swinging back and forth.
The Huskies took control early in the fourth quarter after Jake locker connected with Marcell Reece on a 63-yard touchdown, then ran in another.
The cougars got an Alex Brink to Brandon Gibson touchdown to even things up, but the Huskies were driving late. A turnover gave the Cougs one last chance at a game-winning drive, and with 31 seconds left, one of the most iconic plays of Apple Cup history.
Brink to Brandon Gibson, 24 yard touchdown to win the game, 35-28.
Brandon Gibson “They bit on the playfake and you now I just kept my route skinny and Alex put it up there, I was thankful for that, it was a touchdown.”
And for Alex Brink, he becomes the first and still only Cougar quarterback to ever beat the Huskies three times in a career.
Alex Brink: “It makes the season a lot better there’s no doubt about it, to go out like this, my last game, the seniors get a win, it was just awesome for our program.”
