Another candidate bows out of Spokane mayor’s race

Chris Schroll is a 2019 candidate for mayor of Spokane.

Another candidate has dropped out of the race to become Spokane’s new mayor.

Chris Schroll released a statement on Twitter Tuesday announcing he will be ending his campaign.

“It is with great disappointment that I must inform you that our campaign to challenge the status quo in Spokane has reached the end of its road. With filing week upon us, it is clear that our campaign does not have the financial or institutional support necessary to succesfully run for Mayor.

With a filing fee of nearly $1700, and organizations that should be allies of ours actively working to keep us out of the race, it is clear that this campaign is not winnable.

I am honored to have earned the support of so many community members, but I simply cannot ask those already fighting to make ends meet each month to continue supporting a campaign that cannot win this time.

This is not the end, however. We intend to keep fighting for the policies we have called for, stay involved in our community, and support candidates that fight for our values. While we may not become Mayor in 2019, we will never stop fighting to make Spokane a city that works for ALL.”

Schroll graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2015 with a degree in international relations. He grew up in Puyallup and is the son of an immigrant and working-class family.

Schroll is now the second candidate in the span of a few weeks to end their campaign. Andy Rathbun ended his campaign for mayor to instead run for Spokane City Council.
