All-new Honda Odyssey coming for 2018

Honda used the North American International Auto Show Monday to introduce the fifth generation of its popular Odyssey minivan.

The family hauler will go on sale later this year as a 2018 model.

Naturally, safety is a top priority for the minivan. That’s why it will come with a host of features designed to keep an extra eye on the road. The package is branded as Honda Sensing and includes such things as adaptive cruise control and a function that keeps the car in its lane. Honda estimates the features will be standard on about 95 percent of the Odysseys it sells.

There are new features inside, too, including middle row seats that can slide from side to side as well as forward and back. There’s also an in-car camera system so front-seat passengers can get a bird’s-eye view of the second and third rows.

Honda also developed an app designed to be used by passengers so they can control their own heating and air conditioning. The passengers can even use the app to share music from their phones directly into the car’s entertainment system.

Powering the car is a 3.5-liter V-6 engine connected to either a 9-speed transmission or an all-new 10-speed transmission in higher trim levels.

Honda expects sales of the new minivan to start this spring.
