Airway Heights PD seeing uptick in car prowls

Police in Airway Heights say car prowlers have been very active in the city lately, especially in neighborhoods north of 6th Avenue. The department is reminding people to keep their cars locked.

The department posted a video on Facebook which shows a man going car to car in one neighborhood, checking door handles.

Wallets, credit cards, cash, electronics and firearms have been reported stolen in the last several weeks by dozens of residents.

Kimberly Dove lost her purse a few weeks ago and said she simply forgot to lock her car.

“Usually, I park in my garage and so it just so happened that I was doing something that night and I got home late with the kids and I just didn’t lock my car,” Dove said.

Dove lost about $50 in cash, also some gift cards. But the real headache came when she had to replace her drivers license and credit cards.

“Lesson learned the hard way,” Dove said.

The Airway Heights Police Department is also reminding people to take valuables inside with them. Residents are encouraged to report any and all suspicious people and vehicles in their neighborhoods, day or night by calling 911 or (509) 244-3707.
