Aggressive fire burns Libby timber company building to the ground
An aggressive fire burned a Libby, MT timber industry building to the ground Sunday.
The call came in to crews at about 2:08 Sunday afternoon to respond to a fire at SK Fingerjoint Inc . Libby Fire Marshal Steve Lauer says about 25 volunteers dedicated more than 10 hours to knocking down the fire, but they couldn’t save the plant. Crews remained on scene through Monday.
According to a post from the Libby Volunteer Fire Department, “retired members came to help also and Troy CFD came to mutual aid us and stand by for any other calls that might have come along.”
LVFD reports one firefighter did get a minor burn, but that was the only injury from this fire.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Marshal Lauer are still investigating what started the fire. According to the official fire report, the sprinkler/alarm activation was not functioning when the fire sparked.
Lauer says about 30 people are employed at SK Fingerjoint Inc.
