Administrative leave extended for University of Idaho athletic director
MOSCOW, Idaho — Administrative leave for University of Idaho’s Athletic Director Rob Spear, has been extended.
The administrative leave was extended until an external review into how the Athletics Department handled past sexual assault allegations is completed. The report will then be reviewed, and a decision will be made on Spear’s employment status.
Spear was put on a 60-day administrative leave back in April after several former female athletes brought past sexual assault allegations to the university’s attention.
Consultants were hired in April to conduct a review on how the university handled the allegations, made in 2012 and 2013.
“It is never easy to examine one’s own actions critically,” said President Chuck Staben. “We know we have made improvements in how we approach sexual assault allegations but we need to know that we are doing all we can to keep our students safe. That is our number one priority.”
