70-year-old kayaker rescued on Kettle River near Curlew
CURLEW, Wash. — A 70-year-old kayaker was rescued on the Kettle River north of Curlew on Tuesday.
According to a release from U.S. Border Patrol, agents helped the distressed woman after her kayak flipped over. The Ferry County Sheriff’s Office called Border Patrol when they saw her kayak was trapped by a log in the swift current of the river.
Agent found the woman trapped and fighting to stay above the water. They entered the fast-moving water when they saw the woman’s visible physical exhaustion. They were able to pull her to safety on the riverbank.
The kayaker was taken to Ferry County Memorial Hospital. She was released Wednesday and is recovering at home.
