50-year-old man arrested for injuring one in shooting at Spokane Valley business
SPOKANE, Wash. — UPDATE: The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says 50-year-old Eric M. Hyman has been arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Assault following the shooting.
Hyman told investigators the victim had previously threatened him and his family’s lives. The sheriff’s office says before Hyman left his house this morning, he armed himself and told family members he was probably going to jail because “he wasn’t going to allow the victim to threaten or possibly harm his family.”
The Sheriff’s Office says Hyman then drove to the business where the victim works, found him near a trailer, and shot him. Investigators later found Hyman in a car matching the description given by witnesses near Argonne and Montgomery.
Hyman reportedly told Detectives he wasn’t shooting to kill the victim, he was shooting to ‘teach him a lesson.’ Two handguns were recovered when Hyman was taken into custody.
An employee at Cascade Windows in Spokane Valley was shot inside the business around 6:30 Tuesday morning. The full staff was there at the time but only one person was injured.
A suspect was later taken into custody at the Yoke’s on Argonne Rd., about two and half miles away from where the shooting happened. Spokane sheriff’s deputies are still on scene at the business, near Montgomery Dr. and University Rd., trying to figure out exactly what happened.
The victim, who has not been identified, was shot in the ankle. He/she taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officials have not explained what led up to the shooting.
