SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Three people were injured in a crash involving a stolen vehicle in Spokane Valley Friday morning.

South Dishman Mica Rd has been closed between 8th Ave and 16th Ave for several hours as police investigate.

A release from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was reported at 10:15 a.m. A confirmed stolen vehicle was reportedly speeding before it crashed into a box truck.

The box truck driver suffered minor injuries, but the two people inside the stolen vehicle, including a 16-year-old boy, were both taken to the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as 31-year-old Jason D. McWhirk, a felon currently wanted on a warrant out of Kootenai County.

The Sheriff’s Office said McWhirk will be charged with vehicular assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle once he is released from the hospital.
