Derek Isaak scored 30 of his tournament-record 44 points in the second half to rally Almira/Coulee-Hartline past Valley Christian 62-58 on Saturday night in the Class 1B boys state championship game.

Isaak hit six straight foul shots in the last 49.5 seconds, including two with 9.5 seconds left to seal it for the Warriors (22-6), whose last B title came in 1991. Craver Small scored 24 points and Bo Piersol added 10 for the Panthers (23-3).

Valley Christian got within two points twice in the final 27.3 seconds — the first on a three-pointer by Small that cut the gap to 58-56 — but Isaak thwarted each rally at the foul line.

Isaak, who finished 16 of 28 shooting with six 3-pointers, scored 19 points during a 26-6 run that saw the Warriors turn a 30-17 deficit into a 43-36 lead late in the third quarter.

The two Bi-County League teams split their two earlier meetings this season.
