18 COVID-positive inmates being housed at Airway Heights Correctional Center’s care facility

AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Eighteen inmates are being housed at the regional care facility at the Airway Heights Corrections Center, according to the Department of Corrections.

In early May, the DOC designated AHCC as a COVID-19 overflow site should there be an outbreak in the Washington state prisons system.

The first inmates were moved to the regional care facility in late May; six inmates were transported to Airway Heights from the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center.

As of Monday, 53 inmates and 21 staff members at Coyote Ridge have tested positive for COVID-19. The same set of data shows no inmates from AHCC have tested positive, though two staff members have.

DOC confirmed that the 18 inmates being housed at the Airway Heights RCF were transported from Coyote Ridge.
