1,500-acre fire near Chelan fully contained
DOUGLAS CO., Wash. — The Desert Canyon Fire, which burned an estimated 1,467 acres in Douglass County, was fully contained Sunday morning.
The fire started late Tuesday night just northeaat of Entiat and south of Chelan. Evacuations were ordered for a few homes but dropped later in the week.
Crews said no homes or buildings had been reported damaged and no one was hurt. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The incident team that managed the fire fight said Sunday they were “very appreciative of the cooperation and support we received from local officials and the affected communities.” A release said they recognize the strain wildfires put on communities and, “The satisfaction of assisting those communities overcome the challenges is one of our strongest motivators. It has been our privilege to serve here and help shoulder the burdens of a difficult situation.”
