10-year-old saves mom from domestic violence
SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police are crediting a 10-year-old boy with saving his mom from domestic violence at the hands of her boyfriend Wednesday night.
Suspect Devere Delong has 22 previous convictions and has failed to re-appear in court 30 times. But what really caught the judge’s attention is that a 10-year-old boy was caught in the middle of all this.
Spokane Police said 36-year-old Delong got into a fight with his girlfriend at her home in Northeast Spokane.
Delong was using his hands to strangle the woman, and that’s when the victim’s 10-year-old son grabbed his BB gun, and shot Delong, giving his mom a change to escape and call the police.
In court Wednesday, it was revealed that Delong doesn’t have a job and can’t afford to post a bond. The judge in the case seemed less concerned about that and more worried that Delong has a hisotory of hurting this woman.
On Wednesday, Judge Annette Plese set Delong’s bond at $40,000.
There is a no contact order restraining him from coming within two blocks of the victim and if Delong has any firearms, he has to surrender them if he’s released from our jail.
