$1 million bail for son arrested in missing Franklin Co. woman’s murder
UPDATE: Carlos Rodriguez Torres appeared in Franklin County Superior Court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday. His bail was set at $1 million and his arraignment is scheduled for May 7.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Wash. – Franklin County deputies have arrested a Richland man connected to the disappearance and murder of his mother, Estela Torres Rodriguez.
Carlos Rodriguez Torres, 31, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder Wednesday afternoon. Until now, he has not been publicly named as a suspect.
Franklin County Sheriff Jim Raymond said deputies made the arrest at the sheriff’s office following an interview with the suspect. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Franklin County Superior Court today.
Estela, 54, went missing on Mar. 28 and was later presumed dead at the hands of her son, Clemente Rodriguez Torres, and estranged husband, Tiburcio Larios Rodriguez. Both men are still on the run.
The victim’s car was found abandoned at a rest stop off Highway 395 north of Connell. Her body has not been found.
She is believed to have been the victim of a violent murder based on evidence found at her Franklin County home.
