PASCO, Wash. - Former Washington State University baseball player and Colorado Rockies 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft 27th round pick Matt Argyropoulos has been promoted to the Tri-City Dust Devils from the rookie affiliate Casper Ghosts.
The former Cougars' third baseman was the 828th overall pick in the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft after playing for four years at Washington State. In his last and finest season with WSU, Argyropoulos batted .283 in 49 games while hitting five home runs and driving in 28.
After being drafted by the Rockies in June, Argyropoulos was assigned to the Casper Ghosts by the organization, where he has played 21 games this season. In those games the Longview, Wash. native batted .217 with four home runs and eight runs batted in over 69 at-bats.
The addition of Argyropoulos to the Dust Devils' roster is accompanied by a couple subtractions, with the promotion of infielder Jeff Squier to the Rockies' double-A affiliate Tulsa Drillers as well as the release of first baseman Jordan Ballard.
