The Whitworth football team rallied to score the final 24 points in a 38-17 win over Whittier at the Pine Bowl on Saturday.

The visiting Poets (0-1) took a 17-14 lead early in the third quarter when Mundo Guzman intercepted a Bryan Peterson pass and returned it for a touchdown.

Peterson, a senior from West Valley HS, got the lead back for the Pirates when he ran one in from 14  yards out to make the score 20-17 Whitworth.

Tevin Tyus later returned an interception for a touchdown and DJ Tripoli broke off a 54 yard run for a score to cap off the scoring.

With the win, Whitworth moves to 2-0.  They'll play their third straight home game to start the season next Saturday at the Pine Bowl.
