It was a great run, but the Indians season came to an end as Spokane’s ninth-inning rally fell short, 5-4, to the Vancouver Canadians in Game 2 of the NWL North Divisional Playoffs at Avista Stadium on Thursday night. Spokane is eliminated from the postseason.
Trailing 5-1, the Indians made things interesting in the eighth inning. Jose Trevino reached on an error and was hit in by a long Seth Spivey double. Josh Morgan followed with a single to close the gap, 5-3. The rally continued in the ninth after Fernando Vivili hit a pinch-hit double to score Pepe Cardona from first. The Indians would then load the bases with two outs, but Luke Tendler grounded out to end the season.
Spivey finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and Tendler had two hits in five at-bats with an RBI single in the first.
Starter Richelson Pena allowed two runs in six innings. He struck out five batters while walking just one. Erik Swanson allowed two runs on two hits without recording an out, and Johnny Fasola allowed one run on one hit and two walks. Adam Parks shut down the Canadians in the final two frames, striking out four.
Vancouver’s ace Jairo Labourt earned the win after pitching six innings and allowing only one run. He struck out three and walked only two.
