SPOKANE, Wash. -

Behind the glove of Coleman Vollrath, the Victoria Royals handed the Spokane Chiefs its first home loss of the season, 4-1, in front of 8,055 fans at Spokane Arena on Saturday Night.

Vollrath stopped an impressive 41 of 42 goals, including one diving save towards the end of the third period that kept the Royals ahead by two. The goalie endured multiple frantic shot attempts by the Chiefs – Spokane outshot Victoria 42-29 – allowing just one puck to pass through. Mike Aviani scored Spokane’s lone goal on the night after Mitch Holmberg and Keanu Yamamoto assisted the center on his 12th goal of the season. Holmberg extended his point streak to 13 games with the assist. Yamamoto was credited with his fourth.

Spokane was whistled for seven penalties throughout the contest, but killed six of them. The Royals’ final goal was an empty-netter after Garret Hughson – making his first start at Spokane Arena in 2013 – was pulled for an extra skater.

The Spokane Chiefs will next host the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, October 25th, and the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, October 26th. Both games begin at 7:05 at the Spokane Arena.
