University of Idaho senior football player Bobby Cowan was one of 25 NCAA Division I punters to be selected to the Ray Guy Award watch list for the 2012 season.
The Ray Guy Award is given annually to college football's top punter. The award is voted on by sports information directors, coaches, media representatives, and previous Ray Guy Award winners.
Statistics used to determine the winner include punting average, number of kicks downed inside the 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average returned yardage and percentage of punts not returned.
Cowan is one of nine 2011 Ray Guy Award semifinalists to be on the 2012 watch list. Cowan was a 2011 Football writers association of American All-American, a second-team all-WAC selection and Idaho special teams Player of the Year. He ranked second in the nation in punting average with 46.41 yards per punt. He punted for 4,084 yards on 88 kids, and had two punts of over 70 yards, including a 76-yarder.
Cowan is one of three punters from the Western Athletic Conference to be selected to the list, along with Utah State's Tyler Bennett and Louisiana Tech's Ryan Allen, who won the award in 2011.
