Royals beat Chiefs in OT, again

VICTORIA, BC - Logan Nelson's rebound at 2:18 of overtime gave the Victoria Royals a 4-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs in game 2 of their Western Conference playoff series Sunday night in Victoria, B.C. The Royals now lead the best of 7 series 2-0 as the series shifts to Spokane for games 3 and 4.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Dominic Zwerger scored his first career playoff goal just 47 seconds into the game. Victoria would respond with a Logan Fisher goal at 1:27 to even the game at one. Brandon Magee then scored at 9:31 of the first to give the Royals a 2-1 lead after one. Victoria outshot Spokane 15-10 in the first as the Chiefs went 0-3 on the power play.

In the second, Tyler Soy's rebound at 3:47 of the period staked Victoria to a 3-1 lead. Liam Stewart would get a Jason Fram pass and backhand his first of the playoffs at 4:33 to bring Spokane within 3-2 after two. Spokane would then draw even on Reid Gow's power play goal at 9:07 of the third period from Fram and Mike Aviani. It was the Chiefs first power play goal in 10 attempts in the series and sent the game to overtime for the second straight time in the series.

Nelson would backhand a rebound net front from a Ryan Gagnon shot from the blue line to give the Royals their second consecutive playoff win. Chiefs goalie Eric Williams finished with 41 saves as Victoria outshot Spokane 45-31. The Chiefs were 1-5 on the power play and 5-5 on the penalty kill. Spokane would go for their first win in the series in game 3 at the Spokane Arena Wednesday night at 7:05pm.
