The GSL is dominating so far in the football post-season. After winning three of four other cross-over games, GSL teams swept first round playoff games on Saturday. Gonzaga Prep rallied back from a 14-3 deficit to beat Union 45-17. The Bullpups will play Bellarmine Prep in the quarterfinals. Mead also handled their business, trouncing Newport 41-14. The Panthers will face Auburn in the next round.
In 3A, University raced out to a 21-0 lead over visiting O'Dea, and never looked back winning 34-6. The Titans will face the winner of Kennewick and North Thurston.Prep highlights, scores, brackets from 11/10
In 2A, Cheney ran into a tough Othello team, falling 42-7. The Blackhawks season is now over.
In 1A, Chewelah lost at home to River View 27-14. The Cougars run comes to an end as well.
In the Idaho 3A semis, Timberlake fell to visiting Fruitland 33-0. The Tigers fall a game short of reaching the state finals after beating Weiser in the quarters.
In Volleyball, several area teams were playing for state titles.
In 1B, Tekoa-Oakesdale swept Colton 25-19, 25-22, 25-20
In 2B, Reardan rallied back to beat Colfax in five sets, 11-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-12.
In 1A, Lakeside fell short of a state title, losing in four games to Castle Rock 25-27, 25-13, 25-23, 25-18.
In 2A, Colville finished in 4th place.
In 4A, undefeated Mead was knocked off in the championship game, losing in five sets to Bellarmine Prep 25-27, 25-14, 25-20, 16-25, 15-13.
In state soccer, GSL teams went 1-2 in the quarterfinals. Mead and Central Valley were eliminated, 1-0 in a shootout and 2-0, while Mt. Spokane beat Kamiakin handily, 4-0.
In the 2B/1B boys, Northwest Christian topped Waitsburg-Prescott 5-1, while Saint George's topped Tacoma Baptist by the same score. Both teams advance to the semis.
