Leach offers Shadle sophomore QB Brett Rypien scholarship

Spokane, WA - Brett Rypien says he's been in contact with the WSU coaching staff since the start of this season at Shadle. Still, he wasn't prepared for the phone call he got from head coach Mike Leach on Tuesday night.

Rypien told KXLY he was "shocked" and "really humbled" when the Cougars head coach and offensive guru called to offer him a scholarship. After all, Rypien just recently completed his SOPHOMORE season with the Highlanders, albeit, a record breaking one. Rypien set the GSL's single season mark in passing yards, a record he broke while throwing for a Washington state high school record 577 in a game against Central Valley. Part of the reason Rypien says WSU would be high on his list is that the offense the Cougs run is very similar to the one at Shadle Park.

There is also the family connection, Rypien's uncle Mark, starred at WSU. Then there's the close proximity to home, which the record setting sophomore also says makes WSU an attractive choice. Rypien says the Cougars are the first school to offer him. That shouldn't be a surprise since he won't graduate until the spring of 2015!
