SPOKANE, Wash. - Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to flood downtown this weekend and they'll need a place to stay, and with hotels booking up it's leaving some visitors who haven't made lodging plans for Hoopfest yet with limited options.
A quick Google search shows that the cheapest hotel in downtown right now is running about $200 a night. The Davenport Hotel has rooms available, but you'll pay more than $320 a night.
While there's still some hotel rooms available, people living in this area know that's not going to last for long, so they're taking advantage of it and putting listings online to rent out their extra rooms.
All you need to do is head to Craigslist and under the housing section type in "Hoopfest" and you'll find more than a dozen listings from people all with the same idea.
"If I could leave make a couple bucks at the same by having someone stay here that would be great," Zac Reykdal said.
Reykdal took to the online classified site four days ago to see if he could rent out his room just for Hoopfest weekend.
"I'm just not a fan of being around for Hoopfest. Too many people outside my door so I just figure take off for the weekend and make a couple bucks at the same time," he explained.
Reykdal is hoping to make $400 and has received a couple of inquiries but hasn't found someone yet.
"Someone asked if I would rent it out for more than a weekend and since it's my main home I can't do that," he said.
If you can't find a listing at Craigslist there's also Air BnB, where you can find listings like Steve and Roxene Emmel's Liberty Lake guest house.
"It is a full bedroom, queen sized bed and full kitchen," Roxene Emmel said.
The couple didn't list it specifically for Hoopfest but said the timing was planned.
"We did think that it would be a great time to do it if we were going to do it, because not only Hoopfest, we've got Valley Girl coming up and Ironman," Emmel explained.
Just like Reykdal they're also waiting for someone to reserve the room but anticipates it won't take long.
