SPOKANE, Wash. -

Former Gonzaga women’s basketball standout Shelby Cheslek recently signed a contract to play for Dafni Agiou Dimitriou in Athens, Greece.

Dafni Agiou Dimitriou won Greece’s second division last year and will be in the first division, A1 Ethniki Women's Basketball, this season. Cheslek will have a unique matchup with former GU teammate, Keani Albanez, when Dafni Agiou Dimitriou meets Athinaikos.

“I am both grateful and excited to head out to Athens, and begin my professional overseas basketball career in such a beautiful place,” Cheslek said.

Cheslek started in 115 of her 134 appearances as a Zag. The graduating senior broke the program record for blocks in a career. Her 213 blocks rank seventh in West Coast Conference history. The Pullman, Wash. native is also second in program history with 932 rebounds.

After being named honorable mention academic All-Conference twice, Cheslek was tabbed to the league's All-Academic team in 2015-16. She graduated from Gonzaga with an undergrad Business degree and a master's in Business Administration. She was named to the DI-AAA Athletics Directors Association Women's Scholar Athlete Team with a 3.62 cumulative GPA last season.

Cheslek became the seventh Zag to be invited to a WNBA training camp after receiving the nod from the Phoenix Mercury in April. Following the camp, she played for a U.S. all-star team in the Four Nations international basketball tournament in China.

Cheslek will be in Greece from Thursday through the middle of April.
