Halliday went 11-for-17 for 91 yards along with his three touchdown passes while freshman wideout River Cracraft erupted with six catches for 144 yards and touchdowns. Redshirt-freshman quarterback Austin Apodaca also threw a touchdown pass and freshman quarterback Tyler Bruggman threw for 116 yards and two scores while running the number three offense. Sophomore wideout Gabe Marks caught four balls for 61 yards and redshirt-junior Rickey Galvin made three catches for 23 yards and one touchdown.
For the defense, redshirt-sophomore defensive lineman Xavier Cooper recorded two sacks and redshirt-junior defensive lineman Toni Pole tallied another. Freshman cornerback Charleston White made the most acrobatic play of the day, out-leaping Marks on a long pass attempt from Halliday and was able to hold onto the ball for the pick after landing hard on the ground.
Apodaca capped the opening drive with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Cracraft. Halliday operated the next two series and finished the drives off with a five-yard touchdown pass to junior Isiah Myers and a disputed three-yard scoring pass to Galvin.
Bruggman led the third-string offense on the next couple series and turned in a couple highlight plays, hitting redshirt-sophomore wideout Domnique Williams in stride for a 22-yard touchdown and later capping his day with a 48-yard scoring throw to Cracraft who caught the ball in traffic before scampering to the end zone.
Freshman quarterback Lucas Falk ended his series with a three-yard touchdown pass to redshirt-junior wideout Bobby Ratliff. With the ball placed inside the five on the ensuing series, Cooper blew past a lineman and into the backfield to record a “sack” of Apodaca in the end zone for a safety.
The final series saw Halliday cap an impressive drive with a short touchdown pass to freshman Robert Lewis. The Cougars closed the day with an improvised hurry-up drill, running a play before spiking the ball or hurrying the field goal unit onto the field to get a kick off in time. In the drill, senior kicker Andrew Furney hit from 48 yards but missed his other two attempts.
