Western Kentucky defeated Mississippi Valley State by a score of 59-58. Their victory earns them the chance to play number one seed Kentucky in the second round.

Brigham Young beat Iona 78-72 on Tuesday. They'll move on to play third-seeded Marquette in the next round.

On Wednesday, Lamar University squares off against the University of Vermont. The winner of that game draws North Carolina in the next round And California is slated to play the University of South Florida for the right to take on Temple as the tournament begins in earnest on Thursday with 16 games.
