Chiefs win at Everett, 2-1

EVERETT, Wash. - Eric Williams turned aside 27 shots as the Spokane Chiefs notched their 6th straight win over the Everett Silvertips this season with a 2-1 win in Everett Friday night. The victory moved Spokane 3 points ahead of the Silvertips for 3rd place in the U.S. Division. The win came on the first night of a 3 games in 3 nights road trip through the division.

The Chiefs jumped on top at 15:42 of the first period when Dominic Zwerger scored his 9th goal of the year from Hudson Elyniuk and Riley Whittingham. Williams would turn aside 12 Everett shots in the period as the Chiefs led it 1-0 after one. Spokane's Adam Helewka would score on a breakaway at 10:33 of the second as an Everett power play expired to put the Chiefs up 2-0. Logan Aasman scored just 33 seconds later to notch Everett's first goal against Spokane in Everett in 3 games this year and cut the lead to 2-1 after two. Spokane killed off 3 Everett power plays in the period.

Spokane had a chance to open up the lead in the third when Everett drew a 5 minute major penalty for kneeing, but the Chiefs power play put up just 2 shots and failed to score to keep it a one goal game. Everett would get a power play with just 1:30 remaining, and would pull goalie Austin Lotz with less than a minute left for a 6 on 4 advantage, but Williams and the Chiefs penalty kill would turn aside the Silvertips in the last minute to preserve the win.

Everett outshot Spokane 28-24, but the Chiefs penalty kill went a perfect 5 for 5 in the win. Spokane will continue their road trip Saturday night in Kennewick when they face the Tri City Americans at 7:05pm.
