PORTLAND, Wash. - The winning streak is over at four for the Spokane Chiefs, who were 6-4 losers to the Portland Winterhawks Wednesday night.
Riley Whittingham tied the game at one less than 5 minutes in to the game. But Portland scored three goals in the span of 2:09 in that first period to take a 4-1 lead after the first 20 minutes.
Mitch Holmberg assisted on three of the four Chiefs goals, including Jason Fram's goal that cut the lead to a goal with two and a half minutes to play.
But that three goal hole was really too much to overcome in the Chiefs' worst period of the year.
Spokane (4-1) now heads to Everett Saturday to take on the Silvertips (2-1).
The Chiefs return home Tuesday as they will host the Kelowna Rockets.
