Aviani's hat trick leads Chiefs to win at Prince Albert

Mike Aviani picked up his first career hat trick and assisted on the game winning score with just 3:03 left to lift the Spokane Chiefs to a 7-4 win in Prince Albert Tuesday night. The win was the Chiefs third straight to start off their 6 game road trip through the WHL's Eastern Division.

Prince Albert started the scoring on a power play goal at 16:10 of the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Aviani scored his first of the night and 13th of the year just 1:17 later on Spokane's second power play to even the game at one after the first. Blake Gal and Brenden Kichton picked up the assists as each team was 1-2 on the power play in the period.

Aviani would jump start the Chiefs with his second goal of the night just 4:49 into the second period on assists from Gal and Todd Fiddler to put Spokane up 2-1. Fiddler then scored his league leading 22nd goal of the season on his former team, as Reid Gow and Kichton set up Spokane for a 3-1 advantage at 10:37 of the second. Aviani then capped the hat trick on a backhander from Fiddler and Liam Stewart at 12:56 to give the Chiefs a 4-1 lead. Prince Albert would rally on an Austin Daae goal late in the second to cut the lead to 4-2 after two.

The Raiders would get back to back goals from Dakota Conroy, on assists from former Chief Anthony Bardaro, early in the third period to even the game at 4-4. Aviani then took a Gow pass in the right circle and hit Collin Valcourt for the game winner at 16:57 of the third to put the Chiefs up 5-4. Liam Stewart scored just 38 seconds later on a Connor Chartier pass with his 7th goal of the season to make it 6-4 Spokane. Chartier then stole the puck while the Chiefs were shorthanded and scored into an empty net with just 11.4 seconds remaining to cap the 7-4 win.

The shots were even at 28 apiece, while Spokane went 1-2 on the power play and 3-5 on the penalty kill. The Chiefs have scored 20 goals in their three wins in the East and will head to Saskatoon to face off with the Blades in game 4 of their road trip Wednesday night at 5pm Pacific.
