PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State football continued spring practice Saturday, working out in full pads for two hours and finishing the day with a couple live team segments in Martin Stadium.

The Cougars worked through their usual practice segments of individual position drills, one-on-one battles, 7-vs-7 and special teams that focused on the punt coverage and kickoff return teams before closing the day with a "live" team segment.

Connor Halliday quarterbacked both series today that saw both the defense and the offense trade big plays. Defensive Xavier Cooper continued is impressive spring by bursting through the line and corralled running back Leon Brooks for a big loss. The offense and Halliday countered with a couple first down throws to Dominique Williams and Isiah Myers. Later in the drive, inside the red zone, the defense forced a turnover as a Halliday pass was deflected and safety Casey Locker made a diving catch for the interception. A couple plays later, the offense capped the drive with a touchdown run by Teondray Caldwell who scored off the right side untouched.

The defense started off the second drive by making a couple more stops and recorded another turnover after forcing a fumble. Cornerback Nolan Washington later made a big hit on running back Leon Brooks who had caught a pass in the flat. Halliday and the offense got hot to close the drive as he hit wide receiver Gabe Marks in traffic and Marks bounced off two defenders before scampering to the end zone for a touchdown. A couple plays later, Halliday again hit Marks in traffic for another score before connecting with Kristoff Williams for another touchdown on the ensuing play. Halliday later closed the drive by faking a handoff and pulling the ball back and scoring over the right side untouched.

Following the team segment, head coach Mike Leach put the offense against the defense in one final series from the five-yard line. The first play saw Halliday connect with Kristoff Williams in the right corner for a touchdown on a fade. The defense then stuffed a run play and forced a fumble on the play. The final and deciding play saw cornerback Damante Horton break up a Halliday pass in the end zone, giving the win to the defense.

The Cougars continue spring drills Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Rogers Field and in Martin Stadium.
