Tri-City rallies to beat Chiefs, 6-3
In the 23rd New Year's Eve meeting, the Spokane Chiefs gave up 4 third period goals as the Tri City Americans rallied for a 6-3 win on Monday night in Kennewick. Spokane lost for just the second time this season when leading after two periods, as they carried a 3-2 lead into the third.
Tri City jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a Marcus Messier goal 3:20 into the game. Chiefs captain Brenden Kichton evened the game at one on his 10th goal of the year at 5:43 on assists from Liam Stewart and Riley Whittingham. The Americans would regain the lead on a Parker Bowles power play goal at 17:59 of the period to lead it 2-1 after one. It was the first power play goal surrendered by the Chiefs to the Americans in 7 games this season.
The Chiefs Blake Gal would tie the game at two at 9:51 of the second period with his 5th goal of the year on assists from Mike Aviani and Reid Gow. Mitch Holmberg would notch his 24th goal of the season at 19:07 from Collin Valcourt and Kichton to give Spokane a 3-2 lead heading into the third period. Spokane outshot Tri City 17-6 in the second period.
Bowles would score his second goal on the night on a tip just 2:06 into the third period to tie the game at three. Drydn Dow and Connor Rankin scored goals 14 seconds apart to give Tri a 5-3 lead, then Beau McCue capped the scoring on a partial breakaway at 12:28 as Tri City won their second straight from Spokane.
Spokane will continue their 4 game road trip at Everett on Friday night, January 4th at 7:35pm.
